Summer University 2007

Interested in taking a summer course in Sweden? The Swedish Institute Summer University and the Visby Programme Summer University present a total of eight new summer courses aimed at PhD students, undergraduate students and young teachers from a selection of countries.
This summer the Swedish Institute Summer University offers three courses aimed at PhD students. The Swedish Institute also hosts the third Visby Programme Summer University – four different two-week summer courses in social sciences for undergraduate students from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, as well as one course directed to young teachers from the mentioned countries. The Swedish Institute Summer University

The Swedish Institute Summer University offers three summer courses aimed at PhD students from the following countries: Albania, Belarus, Brazil, China, Egypt, Estonia, India, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Montenegro, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Serbia, Thailand, Turkey and Ukraine.

Each separate course is comprised of lectures, seminars/workshops and study visits during a period of two intense weeks.

The following courses are available for summer 2007:


1. Theories of Gender and Diversity and Democratic Practises in Local Government 
Course dates: June 11 – June 22, 2007
Course arranger: Göteborg University  
 

2. Sustainable development – Conflicts and Solutions
Course dates: June 10 – June 21, 2007
Course arranger: Lund University Education

3. Road Safety
Course dates: June 4 – June 15, 2007
Course arranger: Lund University Education

The Visby Programme Summer University

This year the Swedish Institute will host the third Visby Programme Summer University – five different intensive two-week summer courses in social sciences for students from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. This special initiative will run during June, July, August and the beginning of September at universities and folk high schools throughout Sweden.

The Visby Programme Summer University aims to provide a forum for a comprehensive critical discussion of the role the social sciences play in society, and their impact on our lives. The topics range from the Swedish welfare system and multi level governance to gender issues and intercultural communication.

This year five courses in total are offered, with four courses directed towards undergraduate students, as well as one course aimed at young university teachers (25 – 35 years old).

Courses for undergraduate level students summer 2007:

1. Multi-Level Governance in Sweden and the EU
Course dates: July 15 – 28, 2007
Course arranger: Folkuniversitetet Lund

 2. Gender Issues, Equality and Swedish Society
Course dates: August 5 – 17, 2007
Course arranger: Lund University Education

 3. A meeting on the Border without Borders
Course dates: August 20 – September 2, 2007
Course arrangers: Svefi Academy

 4. Sweden: Introduction to the European Welfare System
Course dates: July 22 – August 4, 2007
Course arrangers: Österlen Folk High School 

5. Communication in an International Context (Only available for young teachers, teaching at university level)
Course dates: June 30 – July 14, 2007
Course arrangers: Gotland University
